Red Cent Compared to Regular Cent?
Question by Noise-Tanker: Red Cent Compared to Regular Cent?
I have a few red cents in jar full of change. I know that copper is reddish brown but I have a few cents that are really red not just copper red. I was wondering a couple things. What is it that causes a cent to be this red. Also what is the worth of this cent compared to a regular pre-1983 cent. No lame jokes about it being not worth “one red cent” please. Also they aren’t red because of paint or anything spilt on them as far as I know.

The air will change the cent to the color of red and handling the coin with ones hands will turn it brown. A mint state coin does the shinny thing to red thing then to brown. It is the way of cents. If it is a nice red color and is a rare date it adds value, if not, then it does not add anything but looks nice. In the end it depends on the date and the coin must have no wear and be a high end mint state coin then it can have a lot of added value.
